Today I spent the morning back at the Garage Sale
Bonanza. The same group of volunteers
greeted me. I think they are still surprised that I am committed to working for
them. Even with my multiple layers of
clothing and hot tea, my nose was running and hands were numb after ten minutes
in the fifty-degree building. Obviously
the conditions were not favorable and in all honesty I could have decided to go
home and work on a different piece of my project. But, I decided against
leaving. Today I was reminded that we sometimes
have to do things that are not pleasing.
We do them anyways if we care enough about a cause. Working with the other volunteers I was
reminded that many of them do much more than the amount of hours I have set out
to work. The sale is not until mid-July
and already the people I have met have been working since April. It will be a great success because of their
hard work and dedication. In the long
run, my volunteer hours will mean little.
But, if volunteers like me decided to just go home, their dream could
not be a reality. Everyone needs a
supporting cast. Grunt work or not, I am
pleased be helping 14 different community organizations that will better my
community with the funds they earn.
This afternoon I have been going through building plans and
meeting minutes from the Lift Bridge Community Association (LBCA). Hopefully this will prepare me for my meeting
at city hall on Thursday where I will learn more about how I can help the LBCA
apply for a community development grant for the Ashtabula Harbor.
